Supporting parents  support their children’s mental

health & well being

The Scoil Mhuire Parents Association together with Scoil Mhuire would like to invite you to attend the NPC primary “Supporting parents  support their children’s mental health & well being” evening on Tuesday the 6th of October 2015 @ 7.30pm in Scoil Mhuire.

 

 

Supporting parents to support their children’s mental health and wellbeing this programme supports parents to encourage and promote positive mental health and wellbeing in their children. The programme also explores how the building of resilience in children helps them to manage and cope with the day to day stresses of life as they occur.

Parents who attend this session will:

  • Explore the factors that influence mental health and well being in their child.
  • Learn how to build and nurture resilience within their own child.
  • Understand what children need for positive mental health and well being
  • Look at ways in promoting wellbeing in your children
  • Be given information on how best to support their child’s positive mental health and wellbeing.

Coffee Morning on first day of school August 31st

Join us for a much needed cuppa on the morning of the first day back to school on Monday 31st of August in Teach na Gaeilge from 9 am.  Meet up with old friends and make a few new ones.  All parents welcome – for parents of the new Junior Infants class, it’s a chance to meet the experts

 

 

 

 

 

Farewell to Mr. Whelan

On behalf of all parents of past and present pupils, the Parents Association has presented Mr Whelan with a hurricane lamp made by the local Celtic Crystal factory to symbolize the light he is bringing with him from Moycullen, and a book voucher to feed the love of learning that he nurtured in the pupils.

We would like to thank Mr. Whelan for his dedication throughout his many years of service as school principal and we wish him the very best in the next chapter of his life.

 

Book Recycling morning – June 26th

We will be holding a book recycle morning on June 26th from 9am in the Halla Mór.  Please bring along any books that you wish to recycle.  All parents/guardians are welcome to come to the Halla Mór.

Book Launch

The parents association members provided assistance with refreshments/baking at the  launch of the ‘We Are Writers’ book on 20th March. The book, which is a wonderful collection of creative writing by the pupils of Scoil Mhuire, Maigh Cuilinn is dedicated to the much-loved Marie Queeney who passed away in October 2013.

 

St Patricks Day Parade

On the 17th March, the junior and senior infants of Scoil Mhuire participated in the St Patricks Day Parade. The theme of the parade was ‘the future’, which led to a wonderful effort on the children’s part, producing robots, doctors, artists to name but a few.  A big thank you to Ms Browne, Ms Pierce and Ms Bohan whose wonderful organisation of the children made the day a huge success.

 

Table Quiz

On the 28th February, the parents association hosted a table quiz at the Forge.  This event was a huge success, being massively supported by the parents of Scoil Mhuire.  A huge thank you goes out to all the parents who attended and also the local businesses who generously donated prizes for the raffle and quiz.  The table quiz raised €1500 which is to be used to purchase musical instruments and increase opportunities for the musical education of the children.

 

 

Pancake Day

On the 17th February, with the help of many generous, and very skilled bakers amongst the parents of the children in Scoil Mhuire, the parents association provided pancakes for all the children on Pancake day. The €340 that was raised was donated to the school library.

 

Bag Packing at Supervalu

On the 12th December, Supervalu Moycullen very kindly allowed the parent’s association to hold a bag-packing event in order to raise funds for the school.  The children of Scoil Mhuire did a wonderful job, giving up their spare time and along with members of the parent’s association succeeded in raising €391.33 on the day.  €250 of the proceeds was donated to local charity, Cruinniu.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Christmas Coffee and Mince Pies

On the 12th December, parents were invited to the Forge for coffee and mince pies. This was an opportunity for parents to meet some new members of the parent’s association.

 

Coffee Morning

On the 1st of September, a coffee morning was held in the Forge to mark the beginning of the new school year. A total of €131.87 was raised, minus costs of €75, giving €56.87.

The Return of the TABLE QUIZ!!

Back for a second year, the hugely successful table quiz is being held on Friday October 18th, upstairs in The Forge.  Doors at 8pm.  Tickets are €10 per person, max 4 to a table – bring your friends!!  Loads of raffle prizes so even if your teammates’ general knowledge isn’t what it should be, you might still win a prize!  Thanks to all our local sponsors.

Fed up of running past each other at the school gates? Havent seen anyone in ages?  We are holding a parents night out, no fundraising, just a chance to get together with other parents.  All welcome!

 

Internet Safety Awareness Night on Feb 20th 8pm

The Scoil Mhuire Board of Management and Parents association will be hosting an Internet safety awareness night in The Forge on Feb 20th.  The talk will commence at 8.15pm sharp. This talk will be particularly aimed at parents of 5th and 6th class students.

Féile Ealaíne – Fun Day June 22nd

We are delighted to be able to sponsor a Funday during school hours for all pupils as part of Arts Week being held from June 14th to 22nd.  There’ll be fun for all pupils with a bouncy castle, face painting and goodies galore.  We are also pleased to sponsor a visit by artist Anja Sammon who will work with pupils throughout the week. Enjoy!

Arts Week – June 14th – 22nd

Money was donated to Scoil Mhuire for Arts week from 14th-22nd June to enable local artists and musicians to visit the school and enrich and broaden the children’s experiences of the Arts.  Many thanks to Ms Bane & the Arts Week Committee for organising these events

Thanks to all the Bag Packing @ Supervalu

Our thanks go to Supervalu Moycullen for the Bag Packing day at their supermarket on Saturday, April 21st last.  Our ‘Bag Packers’ from 4th, 5th and 6th classes at Scoil Mhuire had a brisk day’s business and we would like to extend our sincere thanks to the children who assisted us & the local community who supported us so well on the day..
